These songs are -- hands down -- some of the most beautiful break-up songs I've ever heard. I like to sing them while I drive down the interstate in the rain, particularly.
I don't know why I like sad love songs so much. I hate sad movies... and sad death-related songs. But I like sad love songs... maybe they help me appreciate the wonderful love I've got in my life. And how sad I would be if I lost it. Or maybe they just remind me of the beautiful joy that can come from horrible pain.
I just think they're beautiful.
Blake Shelton: She Wouldn't be Gone
Red roadside wild flower,
if I'd only picked you,
took you home and set you on the counter,
oh at least a time or two,
maybe she'd have thought it through.
Yellow sunset dippin in the rearview,
oh how she loved to sit and watch you,
I could have done that a whole lot more.
If I hadn't been so stubborn,
been so selfish,
thought about her more,
thought about me less.
Joked to make her happy,
held her when she cried,
a little more of that, maybe i..
Wouldnt be drivin like hell,
flyin like crazy down the highway,
callin everyone we know,
stoppin any place she might be,
goin anywhere she might go.
Beatin on the dash,
screamin out her name at the windshield,
tears soakin up my face.
if I'd have loved her this much all along,
maybe, maybe, yeah maybe,
she wouldn't be gone.
She warned me it was comin,
said if I didn't change she'd be leavin.
I just didn't believe
she'd ever really walk out.
God I believe her now.
Called her momma,
cried like a baby to her best friend,
if they've seen her they ain't sayin,
they ain't sayin.
Now I'm cursin like a fool,
prayin it ain't too late,
all i wanna do is fix my mistakes.
Find her, beg her, for one more try,
untill then damnit I'll..
Be drivin like hell,
flyin like crazy down the highway,
callin everyone we know,
stoppin any place she might be,
goin anywhere she might go.
Beatin on the dash,
screamin out her name at the windshield,
tears soakin up my face.
If I'd have loved her this much all along,
maybe, maybe, yeah maybe,
she wouldn't be gone.
I wouldnt be beatin on the dash,
screamin out her name at the windshield,
tears soakin up my face.
if I'd have loved her this much all along,
maybe, maybe, yeah maybe,
she wouldn't be gone.
Red roadside wild flower,

oh at least a time or two,

More than a Memory
People say she's only in my head
Its gonna take time but I'll forget
They say I need to get on with my life
But they don't realize
Is when your dialing 6 numbers just to hang up the phone.
Driving cross town just to see if she's home.
Waking a friend in the dead of night, just to hear 'em say it's gonna be alright.
When your finding things to do not to fall asleep cuz you know she'll be there in your dreams.
That's when she's more than a memory
Took a match to everything she ever wrote
Watched her words go up in smoke
Tore all the pictures off the wall
But that aint helping me at all.
Cuz when your talking out loud and nobody's there
You look like hell and you just don't care
Drinking more than you've ever drank
Sinking down lower than you've ever sank
When you find yourself falling down upon your knees, praying to God, begging him PLEASE
That's when she's more than a Memory
Cuz when your dialing her number just to hang up the phone
Driving cross town just to see if she's home
waking a friend in the dead of night, just to hear 'em say it's gonna be alright
When our finding things to do not to fall asleep cuz you know she's waiting in your dreams
That's when she's
More than a Memory
People say she's only in my head
Its gonna take time but I'll forget
Poetry and Hums aren't things that you get, they're things that get you. And all you can do is go where they can find you." Winnie the Pooh

hello, dear friends.
No, I'm not dead. I came close, but i made it through :)
The last three weeks have been hellish. I had the GRE last Tuesday, and four tests, a major outline, a quiz, and a four day field consultant visit for Tri Delt shortly after. I lived in the library, breathed psychology, and forgot what laying around and doing nothing felt like.
Friday night was like stepping off of a very fast escalator. I had my last test on Friday, and then promptly drove our field consultant (who was awesome! such an encouraging car ride conversation) to Columbia. The car ride back was surreal... I just had this "see, Bridge? You can actually do this whole multitasking thing..." moment. And it was lovely.
Somwhere between the insane to-do list items of the last three weeks, I realized I had grossly underestimated myself. Maybe it's the whole you-are-what-you-get-on-the-GRE bug I got from studying so much. Maybe it's just Furman, where "your best hasn't been good enough since 1863." Somehow, I forgot that I was a strong, compassionate person. I didn't believe I could do it.
But I can :)
So now I'm adjusting back to my much more balanced life of friends, family, and school work. Friday night was a little rough -- I just got discouraged by a few conversations, so I decided to go hide in Greer. Saturday was spent doing a little retail therapy and going to the Oyster Bar and Cory's friend Mark's house with Jessie and some of the Greer crew.
Can I just say how much I love Greer stories?
I just find so much encouragement in the stories of people's lives... and I appreciate people who take the time to share those stories with people they care about. It's a habit that has gotten tossed by the wayside, I fear. Everyone seems so busy talking about everyone else's lives that they forget how precious and interesting their own life can be. Maybe people smack talk when they don't feel like they have anything interesting to contribute. Maybe the whole middle school "get a life" comeback has something to it ;).
I've thought about the way my life has changed since I met Cory -- he has such a genuine love for the people in his life that I can't think of the last time I heard him smack talk for the sake of it... I've gotten so used to his genuine interest in the lives of people he meets that I take it for granted sometimes. He'd rather experience life than talk about it. I've grown to really respect that trait in him...
... and I've started to expect it in other people. Which perhaps isn't fair. I think a combination of not spending a lot of time on adventures with Cory and spending too much time in the Furman bubble really got me stir crazy. Too much talk about who's doing what and so on and so forth. I started to miss the wildflower talk ;)
So the weekend was nice but far too short. I got some cooking in, which was really nice (I haven't had time the last three weeks!) ... we did a little Oktoberfest make-homemade-pretzels deal with the roomies on Friday, and today the boys and I made chicken nachos and fried pickles for NFL Sunday :) I never thought I'd see the day I'd be slaving over a hot stove of fried pickles... haha. Life gets you when you least expect it!
I'm looking forward to this weekend -- we're heading to Columbia for Halloween and the USC-UT game (I missed the LSU game to study... and was sooo sad)... which will be LOVELY! I am a little sad we won't be doing the trick-or-treater thing... seeing as this is Cory's first Halloween in his new house... but Cola will be an adventure, I'm sure. I'm looking forward to getting out of here. Too much Furman.
:) Lots of Thesis and nannying this week -- and hopefully getting my schedule for next term. If all goes as planned, I will only have class on Tuesdays and Thursdays (and TAing for Autism on Mondays and Wednesdays)... which means I'll need a new job (and will probably be nice and poor), but I'll have barely any schoolwork. I'm so excited.
Hope everyone is doing well!

how's it gonna be.
i've never known these lyrics before today.. yay, pandora. and no, this doesn't have anything to do with cory. ha. he's still fantastic. and i'm very thankful we never fight like this...
I'm only pretty sure that I can't take anymore
Before you take a swing
I wonder
What are we fighting for
When I say out loud
I want to get out of this
I wonder
Is there anything I'm going to miss
I wonder
How it's going to be
When you don't know me
How's it going to be
When you're sure I'm not there
How's it going to be
When there is no one to talk to, between you and me
'Cause I don't care
How's it going to be
Where we used to laugh
There's a shouting match
Sharp as a thumbnail scratch
A silence I can't ignore
Like...
The hammocks by the doorway we spent time in
Swings empty,
don't see lightning like last fall when it was always
about to hit me
I wonder how's it going to be when it goes down
Hows it going to be
When you're not around
Hows it going to be
When you found out there was nothing
Between you and me
'Cause I don't care
How's it going to be.
Hows it going to be
When you don't know me any more
And how's it going to be
Want to get myself back in again
The soft dive of oblivion
Wanna taste the soul of your skin
The soft dive of oblivion
Oblivion
How's it going to be
When you don't know me any more
How's it going to be
third eye blind . how's it going to be
I'm only pretty sure that I can't take anymore
Before you take a swing
I wonder
What are we fighting for
When I say out loud
I want to get out of this
I wonder
Is there anything I'm going to miss
I wonder

:)
Sorry I have disappeared... and I'm extra sorry it's probably not going to get any better any time soon. Between now and October 24th, I have the GRE, four midterms, a giant project, grad school requests, a quiz, two field placement days... and I have to coordinate a four day field consultant visit for Tri Delt. However.
Things are good. We're in the middle of Homecoming, which is fun. I'm going to my first Pi Kapp function tonight (Cory is renting me out), and it's been really wonderful seeing everyone. And we went to Lee Brice downtown last night, which was extra wonderful.
Cory made me a CD (which has made studying a lot less painful), and it had this song on it... and I just love it. And wanted to share it. So here we go:
"Learn to Live" Darius Rucker
grandpa campbell would sit upon his front porch
and i'd be right there just sittin on his knee
he'd tell stories about love and feast and famine
and i'd hang onto every word that he would breathe
he'd say boy as you walk through this life
here's a little wisdom that'll help you get by
you gotta live to learn
you gotta crash and burn
you gotta make some stances
and take some chances
you gotta live and love
and take all life has to give
you gotta live and learn
so you can learn to live
well i left home and i went to carolina
i didn't sail off just to see what i could see
i did some things that i wasn't really proud of
sometimes life just got the best of me
but i'd always think back to those days
and i know what grandmpa campbell would say
he'd say
you gotta live to learn
you gotta crash and burn
you gotta make some stances
and take some chances
you gotta live and love
and take all life has to give
you gotta live and learn
so you can learn to live
after years of running round and searching
i found me a woman who loves me just for me
all those mistakes i thought that i was making
led me right here to you sittin' on my knee
son as you walk through this life
here's a little wisdom that will help you get by
you gotta live to learn
you gotta crash and burn
you gotta make some stances
and take some chances
you gotta live and love
and take all life has to give
you gotta live and learn
