so i'm not going to procrastinate this term. i promise.. myself. i'm going to try really, really hard not to.
yeah, i have a paper due tomorrow. haven't started... but hey -- i have a topic. so i should be able to crank that baby out in an hour. and i'm declaring my major tomorrow morning -- pretty exciting, no?
chapter tonight was nice. very laid back. i love my sisters -- they're incredible.
so i've been reading since chapter about autism. autism homework is the best... i am required to learn about something that absoluetly fascinates me. i spent most of the evening reading the original article describing autism as a disorder that linked similarities between eleven exceptional children. one description began with a mother's request... "i just want to reach my child."
can you imagine?! the feeling that you cannot connect to your baby, that he or she has no interest in pursuing you with the love and expression that you pursue him? how terrifying..
it got me thinking.. nerdily. about gestalt theories... that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. the children in the article see things in parts.. they see the world in parts. for that reason, they can't connect in the same way to a person.. just the parts.
for instance, if a person holding a needle pricks a child with autism, often the child will react against the hand, rather than the person. no association is drawn between the person and the pain.. or the person and the hand.
we are all one body
it amazes me how similarly we view each other.. how we view faith.. how we view friendship and love and all of those things that make the world go round. we look at so many things as broken pieces. we look at faults as apart from a person's strengths. we look at everything in a person's life.. everything about a person.. like we're afraid of looking for the soul. at the soul. at anything that hints that we're more than what makes us distinct.
we're afraid of that je-no-say-qua (teehee) that makes us who we are. not just what we are. who we are.
"i just want to reach my child"
i can see God murmuring that same phrase, frustrated at me when i'm goofily galavanting around who-knows-where doing who-knows-what... paying Him no mind... enjoying the parts of His creation without seeking the greater whole.. the love that made the creation all come into being. without seeking Him.
oh, jeepers. i'm not making sense. clearly bedtime.
good day ahead, i can feel it. and the weather is changing into fall-ness.. fantastic fall-ness. i love fall. fall's my favorite. (in the will ferrell elf voice).
oh, and i love caitlyn. ach de ach.
gnite!
