okeydokey, so maybe it's becuase people hide behind religion.
see, i've been thinking about this for awhile. how / why / in what way i've changed this summer. and i think God just served me up a brutal dose of honesty. a lot of it has to do with camp -- people were who they are there. the campers couldn't hide behind very much, they couldn't always control as well what they did and said. and the staff... didn't. they hid behind a lot of things, but for the most part, religion wasn't one of them.
maybe that's why i feel like i know myself better.. like i know my camp friends better. people at Furman spend so much time hiding. they hide behind their books and their makeup and their 100% JCrew wardrobes and their Bible studies. so few will admit they're seeking nourishment. most attribute their religious daily lifestyles to maintenance.
nourishment versus maintenance. huge difference.
when you're struggling, you'll get a whole lot of "I'm praying for you"-s... but are they? or is it part of the giant routine that is propriety?
there are good people out there not hiding behind everything. maybe they don't have it All Figured Out like the maintenance people of the world, but seeking nourishment is so much more humbling, so much more beautiful... to me, at least.
oh, bother. i'm going to go make myself something cold to eat.
