okay, so normally getting a voicemail message isn't a huge deal, right? but today, it totally was.
watermelon called 28 times while i was at church today. 28 times. usually when he calls, it's like darth vader is stalking me. just heavy breathing or an occasional "MOM... SHE AIN'T ANSWERING HER PHOOOOONE" in his scruffy, angry voice. i gave him a hard time about it the other night.. told him it wasn't appropriate to call so often and never leave a message. so tonight when he called 28 times, i didn't expect any messages.
yet i had two.
thirty seconds apart.
and both said the same thing.
BUT WATERMELON LEFT A MESSAGE!!! it was angry, it was scruffy, and it was ridiculously repetitive.. but i got a very distinct, "CALL ME BACK, BRIDGETTE."
it made my night!
so the rest of the weekend has been pretty freakin' spiffy, too. cory and cam came down on thursday, which was amaaazing... we've just been hanging out, having fun. and they've been here a bunch of times this summer, so it's not like we have to do the tourist thing or have any rhyme or reason. we just get to play.
thursday evening, cam, scott, cory, and i went out to sulli... we tried a "new beach" by going to the opposite end from where i usually go.. and we ended up in a little patch of sand at high tide between two beachy houses. it was perfect. the water was calm and cool, the air was hot... so we just floated until our fingers were pruny. very, very pruny. afterwards cory and i went on an adventure around charleston while some of the rest of the crew went out... it was an absolutely fantastic evening.
friday was just as wonderful -- we headed out to folly and the crab shack for horseshoes and more beach time. twas my first game of horseshoes, and i actually didn't end up doing too badly. i mean, that's a lie. i stunk. but the guys were good about looking at things optomistically... ie. "good job, bridge... that one was much closer than the last one."
namely because if i quit playing, they'd lose their fourth :)
so the guys came back and we got all showered and we grabbed pizza and went to the havenots... who were hilarious. it's this little local comedy improv group in this sketchy little theater... and they're funny as anything. they were acting out the price is right in one of the scenes and one of the guys came and sat next to cam, then got so excited when his name was called that he hugged all of us and drank some of cory's beer to celebrate.
it was hilarious.
friday night the crew went out, and i went to spend time with my beloved amy before she left for clemson (which i won't write about because it makes me sad. i barely got to see any of my friends this summer... camp was amazing, but i miss them dearly).
after our beach day we came back and got showered and the crew went out downtown.. we went to tommy condon's for a bit, then cory and i headed out to caitlyn's for an amazing evening with the high school crew.
i miss them so much.
it was one of those things where we were all sitting on a screened in back porch, laughing, talking about whatever comes to mind... beautiful heat lightning outside, laughter and clinking glasses... it was amazing. every time we leave and come back, we each change a little bit. but we all still love each other. a whole lot.
later that night i went to Adoration by myself for a little while because i realized i was getting really grouchy. i think its just because the summer has been so busy, there's so much going on.. so much is changing. but God is good. steady, true, peaceful, and good. i don't even really remembered what i prayed about. i didn't "get anywhere" or have any big revelations. i just sat there. quietly. thinking. it was fantastic.
today was lovely... cory and i hung around the house with the fam in the morning... which is always more of an adventure than it sounds like it should be. mom was showing us her yoga poses while she made pancakes, and nolan sat as close to cory as possible, watching his every move. nolan is hilarious around him. like.. if cory and i are sitting on the couch, it quickly becomes me-cory-nolan. in that order. i left to go get ready at one point, and i got out and couldn't find cory anywhere... finally i found him shooting a bb gun at coke cans in the front yard with nolan.
go figure.
so we headed downtown to southend brewery with cam, then bargain shopped around charleston and watched some golf... and then cory left. :( but the good news is his car didn't blow up at any point between here and greenville, and he's now safely and soundly at home.
ended up sitting with my sister tonight at church :) and it was fantastic because i haven't seen her in foreeeever.. so we got to catch up a little bit. more later this week, i'm sure. and i realized right before church that watermelon had left a real message.. and between that and the wonderful weekend with friends and fam, i was just really really happy. so Mass was simple and nice.
i picked up eric from work tonight. i could see him through the glass hopping on one foot and stuffing pizza in his mouth. he's getting funnier and funnier... told me the other day that "profanity is the veil behind which lies a limited vocabulary"... and his anniversary with his girlfriend is coming up, so we were trying to figure out what restaurant he should take her to. he said it had to be romantic. i said i wanted to throw up.
so life -- in a nutshell -- is fantastic. right now, at least. i think charleston is going to be feeling a little empty without the camp crew and a handful of my favorite college-bound-people-in-the-world.. but a few stragglers will remain, and we will have fun. and i move into the APARTMENT in two and a half weeks?!?!? EEP!!!
oh, it's what you do to me...
