the day i sang along

so i've had one of those days where i can look back and see how far i've come. they don't come too often. surely a God-given gift.

i was in pier one and i heard... this song. i don't know.. i'm a big song person. they make me think about people. and situations. and times... good times, bad times. anyways... this was a song about good times gone bad. really bad. one of those songs you delete from every playlist you own.. including the actual original cd playlist you bought it on. a song that turned into a lie.

yeah, one of those songs.

so it came on. and it didn't hurt. it didn't make me mad, sad, angry. in fact, i think i stood up a little straighter. it made me proud of who i've become. so proud that i started to sing along.

i sang to the song. and i smiled.

i didn't sing and smile because of the song, or what it stood for, or what it symbolized, or anything like that... i sang because i'm happy. and the song... or anything like it, for that matter... can't touch that happiness. if i've learned anything over the last year, i've learned that.

don't let the little things ruin the big things. don't let the songs ruin the stuff that really matters. like the songs in my life now. the most beautiful, ecclectic, fresh songs i've ever heard..

so afterwards.. driving by the road with the house and running into the old best friend from middle school, it barely phased me. i just kept singing.

:)

so the rest of the day went well.. getting wisdom teeth out on tuesday, making a dent in apartment shopping. my room is really coming together... it's all apple green and deep hazelnut brown and burnt orange... kind of a different palate for me. no blue. yet. and babysitting.. went well. i miss camp.. working with kids make me miss my campers.

except its getting hard to miss watermelon. he called 30-something times today. i answered once to tell him we were going to skip a talking day if he kept calling and he started screaming "IM SORRY DONT HATE ME" and my heart melted a bit. but gah. it's getting ridiculous.

so yes.. babysitting tomorrow. hopefully seeing a dear friend. and taking a little nap.

bedtime.

sweet caroline.. good times never seemed so good
i've been inclined to believe it never would
